Matt has been one of the leading sports nutritionists in the UK for many years. He worked with the England's Rugby World Cup winning team of 2003 and remained with England Rugby until 2017 surviving many changes in management. He has worked for many of the Premiership Rugby clubs and Premiership Football clubs including Saracens, Wasps, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth and both the men and women England Football teams. Matt works with the general public to help find nutrition-based solutions to illness and fatigue.
This session will explore how food impacts our mood and what we can do to improve our happiness and energy for life. It is essential for anyone that experiences unexplained low moods, inflammatory symptoms such as eczema, IBS and different types of arthritis.
Lorraine is an advanced Pilates instructor. In her session you can calm your mind, improve your posture and build a stronger core and more balanced body. It is an introductory guide to help you experience of the mind/body benefits of Pilates.
In this session you will learn how to:
1. reduce stress and improve overall well being through the integration of mind and body in Pilates movements
2. strengthen your core, protecting your lower back and giving you greater support and stability
3. improve spinal mobility, helping you to move better and be freer from joint discomfort and pain
4. improve your posture and suffer less from the aches and pains caused by too much sitting down.
Lorraine Hobbs has been teaching advanced Pilates since 2008. A former Physical Education teacher, Lorraine is committed to teaching the benefits of Pilates for holistic wellbeing, injury prevention and the rehabilitation of sports injuries. Lorraine specialises in working with clients with Low Back Pain and those who are recovering from spinal surgery. Lorraine also delivers Ante and Postnatal Pilates, Neuro Pilates, Pilates for Scoliosis and Shoulder Rehab.
This class is a great and gentle introduction to the whole body/mind/self benefits of Pilates. You can simply sit and listen or, even better, try a few of the introductory exercises...all designed for complete beginners.
Come to this session and find out what mindfulness really is without tie-dye, incense or whale music. Major Patrick Burgess has developed highly practical sessions for his colleagues throughout the Armed Forces. Pat will teach you some simple and practical techniques to:
1. help free you from worry and stress.
2. teach you to overcome unnecessary distraction.
3. provide better mental focus when you need it
4. help you experience greater mental clarity
Major Pat Burgess joined the Army in September 1992 and has had a long and distinguished career including operations to Northern Ireland, the invasion of Iraq (and subsequent tours) and a further three tours of Afghanistan. His interest in Mental Health, Resilience and more specifically Mindfulness started in 2009, whilst on operations in Afghanistan. He has been practising Mindfulness since then and has gained further qualifications and experience in human sciences.
He is a member of the Defence Mindfulness Steering Group and has run weekly Zoom Mindfulness sessions throughout the COVID-19 period. He is currently involved in the implementation of Physical Awareness Training (PAT), an innovative approach to bringing Mindfulness based coping strategies into the existing culture of physical training. He runs Mindfulness classes for the permanent staff, both military and civilian, at the Armour Centre in Bovington and has recently created a defence-wide online mindfulness course, which currently has seen over 4000 subscribers internally and has since been released on the Army’s external webpage as open source. His course content and delivery is endorsed by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) and he has his own website: www.oneworldmindfulness.co.uk. This is not his day job! He has also delivered numerous presentations on Mindfulness and coping strategies across Defence, to Primary and Secondary schools, Erlestoke Prison, The Samaritans, MIND mental health charity and to those working in welfare and support roles on behalf of Army Headquarters Health (delivering training to over 6000 personnel to date). He also taught Mindfulness at Glastonbury Festival in 2019.
He has most recently been awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours List in recognition of his tireless work in bringing mindfulness to Defence.
He has a BSC(Hons) in Psychology, a Diploma in Mindfulness, and has been trained in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy at Oxford.
