OLYMPIC HIIT WORKOUT WITH NATHAN DOUGLAS

Double Olympian Nathan Douglas demonstrates an advanced HIIT workout from his High Performance Training Centre. This is a workout Nathan performs as part of his training programme. At the toughest intensity, Nathan performs 5 sets of this circuit with 30 seconds on each exercise!

Nathan says:

‘My advice is to start at 3 sets with a 15 second rest per exercise. As you improve, increase the sets to 4 and then 5. When you adapt to that workload, increase the seconds to 20 and do as above, then to 25 seconds and on to 30 seconds. You can also increase the pace you are working at. This is why HIIT circuits are so great, as you become fitter…you can hit them harder!’

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT):

- short intense exercise alternated with recovery periods

- cardiovascular exercise

- improves physical stamina

- burns calories during and after your workout

- raises your metabolic rate for hours after exercising

-improves muscle tone

- great if you don't have a lot of time
